Arizona State University’s Women’s Gymnastics Team is ready to chalk up for the 2020 season. On January 21, this team reached the highest overall score of their 2019 season, the ASU GymDevils came in second at the UCLA meet. Featuring senior gymnast, Justine Callis on beam with a career high of 9.925 and junior Morgan Hart on bars, scoring a career high of 9.875.

However, it cost the team a win over the Bruins after senior Katelyn Lentz scored a 2.000 on her floor routine. The Sun Devils needed high-level individual scoring to regain their lead.

These talented women athletes continued to bring strength and growth throughout the rest of their 2019 season. On Road to Nationals ASU ranked №25 out of the top-25 to finish out their season. For the first time since 2014, these gymnasts were lead to a successful and well season with a winning record of (11–10) led by both Jessica and Jay Santos in the regular season. And to finish out their season with pride, they had a team Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) for the second consecutive season over 196.000, of 196.320 for 2019.

Saying goodbye to old teammates and hello to seven new-comers, the nine returners are ready to take them under their wing and help build their team for the upcoming season. Six freshmen and transfer sophomore take on the Gym Devil’s roster. Freshman Juliette Boyer, Hannah Scharf and Gracie Reeves proved their talent in December, at the Maroon and Gold Scrimmage and showcased their ability to bring hope to this team for a great season to come. Other new gymnasts including Isabel Redmond, Alina Miller and Megan Thompson who all competed in three events individually, allowing the team to welcome these athletes with open arms and potential for 2020.

Leading the team, eyes are on top scorer junior Leonard-Baker for her ability of hitting 105 out of her 106 competed routines in her Sun Devil career in the last two seasons. Not only has she exceeded her All-American honors, but was pairing both the all-around and uneven bars, she was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team. Other returners, including Morgan Wilson, Jessica Ginn, Morgan Hart and Ashley Szafranski have demonstrated their performance to contribute to the team. As well as gymnasts Jasmine Guiterrez and Graycee Zaugg.

The 2020 schedule will be challenging but conquerable for ASU. 11 of their competitors are in the top 25 and six of their opponent teams ranked in the top 10. However, the perseverance of this team will shine bright.
